     Arkenstone Technical Support Bulletin

     Date Created: December, 1999
     Subject: Using JAWS for Windows 3.x and Open Book: Ruby
     Edition 4.x with the DECtalk Express speech synthesizer

     This bulletin describes how to configure Jaws for Windows
     3.x to work with Ruby using a DECtalk Express.

     Please note:
     By default, the Ruby directory is C:\RUBY. The JAWS for
     Windows directory is usually c:\jfwXXX (where XXX is the
     JFW version number).

     1. Copy DTE.DLL from the Ruby directory to the jfw
     directory.
     2. Edit the JFW.INI file which is located in the jfw
     directory.
     Change the line:
     synth1driver=dte

     so that it reads:
     synth1driver=ssil

     3. Copy OBU.JCF and RUBY.JCF from the BACKUPS subfolder
     of Ruby (usually c:\ruby\backups) into the SETTINGS\ENU
     subfolder of JFW (for example, c:\jfw331\settings\enu).
     You will need to restart jfw before trying to run Ruby.
