Hi Dave,

It sounds like you have the search feature of IE turned on.  Press Alt-v to
get into the View menu and arrow down to Explorer Bars.  Uncheck anything
that's checked, most likely search.  You uncheck things from the menu by
pressing enter on the items.  If more than one item's checked, you'll have
to repeat the process for each checked item.
