In regards to a sluggish JFW, try copying the speech.dll file from your
jfw331 folder to the c:\windows\speech folder. JAWS cannot be running while
you do this, because the speech.dll file would be in use. This worked for
me when I first installed Windows 98 Second Edition. I missed the rest of
this thread, so I am not sure if this sluggishness happens to you when using
a software synthesizer.
