* Jharkhand News * <http://jharkhand.org.in/> Rs 15.37 crore Mid-day meal scam An inquiry conducted by a team of auditors appointed by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has unearthed a whopping Rs 15.37 crore scam in mid-day meal scheme in the state. The team had carried out the inquiry in five districts — Ranchi, Chaibasa, Daltonganj, Gumla, Jamshedpur — between December 2007 and March 2008 and found that money was misappropriated by showing expenditure incurred in mid-day meals of those students who did not figure in records of the schools in these districts. As per the scheme, cooked food is served free of cost to students. Both the Centre and the state Government contribute towards the expenditure incurred. The auditors found that in these five districts, false records of students were maintained.
