Ranchi, 2008 Oct 2 (IANS) Maoist rebels blew up a school building in Chatra
district of Jharkhand, the police said Thursday. According to the police,
around 50 to 60 rebels belonging to Communist Party of India-Maoist
(CPI-Maoist) blew up a primary school which comes under Pratappur police
station in Chatra district, some 200 km from Ranchi late Wednesday.
Security personnel had earlier camped at the school and that might be the
reason why the rebels blew up the building, the police added.
Last month, Maoist rebels had blown up a school building in Palamau district
citing the same reason.
At present, 40 school buildings in Jharkhand are being used by security
personnel engaged in anti-Maoist operations.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. In the last
seven years, more than 1,300 people, including civilians and Maoist rebels,
have been killed.
Ranchi, 2009 March 31 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas blew up two schools and a
community building in separate incidents in Jharkhand, police said Tuesday.
Members of the Communist Party of India-Maoist Tuesday blew up a government
school building in Banlaat village of Gumla district, around 130 km from here.
Two rooms were badly damaged, the police said.
Earlier Monday night, Leftist rebels detonated a primary school building in
Saryu village of Latehar district, 100 km from Ranchi, according to the police.
A Rs.1.8-million community building at Paiek village in Bokaro district, around
140 km from here, was damaged by the guerrillas Tuesday morning.
“Maoist rebels are targeting school and community buildings ahead of the Lok
Sabha elections. Security personnel stay in school buildings during elections,”
a police officer told IANS.
Ranchi, 2008 Sep 29 (IANS) Maoist rebels blew up a school building in Palamau
district of Jharkhand, police said Monday. Around 20 to 30 rebels of Communist
Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrounded a middle school in the Manatu
block of Palamau district, around 190 km from here, late Sunday night. The
building was blasted using detonators.
No person has been injured in the blast, police said.
The school building was used by the security personnel while launching a
combing operation against the rebels. Maoists cited that as the reason for
blowing up the building.
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts in Jharkhand. In the last
seven years, more than 1,300 persons including civilians, Maoist rebels and
security personnel have been killed in insurgency-related violence.
Ranchi, 2008 Nov 30 (IANS) Maoist rebels blew up a school building in Palamau
district of Jharkhand Sunday morning, the police said. According to the police,
30 to 40 insurgents belonging to Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist)
surrounded a school building in Paki block of Palamau district, 190 km from
Ranchi, Sunday morning and blew it up.
The rebels left a pamphlet at the spot, which said the building was destroyed
to prevent security forces from using it in the future, a police official said.
At present, security forces are occupying 43 school buildings in the state. The
Jharkhand High Court last week directed the state government to vacate the
school buildings being used by security forces as temporary camps.
Raipur, 2008 May 17 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas have demolished at least seven
school buildings in Chhattisgarh’s tribal dominated areas in the last three
days, a police official said Saturday. “The banned Communist Party of
India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) is now on a school building demolition spree in
Dantewada district with at least seven schools being extensively damaged since
Thursday,” Girdhari Nayak, inspector general (Maoist operation), told IANS.
Dozens of rebels raided government schools in Kuakonda block in Dantewada, some
520 km south of capital Raipur, Thursday night. They damaged five buildings
with sharp edged weapons, but they did not use any explosives.
The police claimed that the insurgents Friday night targeted two boarding
schools run by the tribal department.
Ranchi, 2009 Jan 26 (IANS) On the 60th Republic Day, Maoist rebels hoisted
black flags in some parts of Jharkhand, police sources said Monday. According
to police sources, black flags were hoisted by Maoist rebels in Palamau,
Chatra, Chaibasa and in some other parts of the state.
“We have received reports that Maoist rebels at gun-point hoisted black flags
in some schools and government buildings. The black flags were removed by the
police after it was reported by the concerned authorities,” a police source
said.
The source said: “Maoists unfurl black flags to express their dissent with the
policies of the government.”
Maoist rebels are active in 18 of the 24 districts of the state. More than
1,450 people have been killed in Maoist related violence in Jharkhand in the
last eight years.
Ranchi, 2008 April 29 (IANS) Maoist guerrillas Tuesday blew up a building of
the Jharkhand tourism department under construction in the religious tourist
hub of Giridih district, the police said. According to the police, around 20
activists of the Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) surrounded the
building situated near Madhuban block of Giridh district, around 270 km from
Ranchi.
The rebels asked the people sleeping inside the building to vacate and later
blew it up it by using explosives, said the police.
Before leaving the spot, the guerrillas left pamphlets near the spot claiming
responsibility for the incident.
In February last year, the rebels had blown up the same structure.
Madhuban is a religious place thousands of Jains visit every year.
The Jharkhand tourism department has been building the facility for tourists at
a cost of Rs.10 million.
Ranchi, 2009 Feb 2 (IANS) Maoist rebels blew up a tower for mobile telephony in
Chatra district of Jharkhand, a police officer said Monday. More than 50 rebels
belonging to Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) blew up the
transmission tower of Airtel situated in Garo village of Chatra district,
around 190 km from here, Sunday midnight.
Two security men posted at the cell phone transmission tower escaped from the
spot, the police officer added. The tower was blasted by using detonators.
The mobile phone services have now been affected in the district. Maoist rebels
targetted the tower to disrupt communication of policemen in remote areas, the
officer said.
In Jharkhand, more than 13 such towers have been blown by the Maoist rebels in
last three years.

Ranchi, 2009 Feb 28 (IANS) Suspected Maoist guerrillas blew up a panchayat
community building in Jharkhand, the police said Saturday.
According to the police, more than 30 activists of the outlawed Communist Party
of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) Friday night blew up the building in Mahdand
village of Palamau district, around 190 km from here, by using detonators.
No one was injured in the incident.
Panchayat community buildings are used for meetings of village level elected
representatives.
In another incident, Maoist rebels blew up a government building in Lathear
district.
The CPI-Maoist had called a strike Saturday in Bihar, Jharkhand and Orissa to
protest against the arrest of four of their central committee members. The
strike affected life in the rural areas of the state. Long-distance buses also
did not ply.
Due to the strike the Jharkhand Academic Council postponed the 10th and 12
class board examinations Saturday.
