Dear All,

A few weeks back Mr. Baxla who is heading the Kurukh Literary Society of
India emailed us all and asked for help with the 1st Kurukh Biannual
journal. The Society plans to publish around 500 copies and will have about
7-8 research oriented papers. The entire expense mounts up to about Rs
50,000/-.

Now, we all know that the scholarship in the Oraon language has been
decreasing steadily. A lot of the young generation (including me) don't
speak Oraon very well. The pressures of urbanization and modernization has
taken a toll on the language among people who live in the cities - that is
you and me. We need to encourage all efforts which are put into our language
- so that it can be preserved and that none of our beautiful stories, songs
and other literature will be lost. There are a lot of indigenous people
around the world, whos tribes are becoming extinct by the day. The Oraons
are lucky to be relatively strong in number. We also have a growing number
of educated people. After all so many online groups are only possible
through are education and because we have access to the internet.

I know that a few of us live abroad - in the US, in the UK and in other
parts of Europe and the world. I would especially request people like Mr.
John Ekka, who have contacts in the US and Dr. Dhuni Soren in the UK - to
please become active in this process and ask your contacts to donate money.
50,000 is only about $1250 and I am sure that we can raise this money. The
time of the conference which would go along with the release of the journal
is approaching quickly (23-25th Nov).

A cross cheque or Demand draft in favour of "Kurukh Literary Society of
India" payable at Delhi will be muchly appreciated. In case of any questions
please contact Mr. Ashok Baxla at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Please do help raise the money.

Thanks,
Rashmi
