Its unfortunate that, though Jharkhand has given Urdu, & Bangla as second
language status in the state, it has completely ignored Oriya language. The
dirty politics and biased attitude of the Govt officials are equally blamed.
1. Jharkhand is proud of Orissa's Saraikela Chhau. It is commonly believed
that the word Chhau has evolved from the term Chhaya which means shadow in
Oriya. Purana has reference to Singhbhum, which includes Seraikella and
Khoraswan as part of Orissa or Tuvalu, the land where Chhau dance evolved and
developed
2. Jamshedpur city was built by Tata with Ores from Mayurbhanj district of
Orissa. Tatas has mines in Joda and Katamati in Orissa. Then king of Mayurbhanj
had donated a vast reserve of ores at throw away price as a token of
appreciation.
3. Seraikela, Chakradharpur and Baharagora have an Oriya population of about
70 per cent. Moreover, several districts, including the West Singhbhum has a
sizeable number of Oriya population. Oriya speaking population comprises over
30 per cent of the total state population.
