Subject: Re: [ =>> Jharkhand <<= ] Re: converting Adivasis by Christians or
Hindus
Swamis

Remember what happened to Tibetans under the Chinese, remember what has
happened in the North East of India, where it is all but annexed from India
under the Christianisation programme? Adivasis and the Vedic Santani people
have lived side by side since times immemorial, so it is a little rich to say
that Hindus are now wanting to destroy the Adivasi way of life.

Who destroyed the Masai of Kenya, the Maoris of New Zealand, Aborigins of
Australia, American Indians, the Incas & Mayas of Mexico and Central America?
Who used Divide & rule to have an upper hand to bifurcate India into Pakistan &
Bangladesh, Israel & Palistine, Vietnam, South & North Korea, Lebonon,
Hinterland of Africa, Rhodesia, etc etc? The answer my friends is that behind
all these is to increase the flock numbers of faithfuls.

Hindus or Indians have never enhilated any Original people of any country. If
this has happened in India after the Independence, then it is due to following
a socialistic way of development imposed by the Congress and designing Steel
Mills on Adivasi land.

Swamis

What I can't understand is when Hindu Swamis and Hindu
organizations do social service, that is considered ok and it is advertised as
humanitarian works. But when Christian missionaries do the work it is
allurement for conversions.........

We adivasis are neither Hindus nor Christians. Both are outside religions for
us. If Adivasis embracing Christianity is objected and criticised the same
Criticism shoud be done for the Hindu Swamis and their organizations.Hindu
fundamenatlists are converting Adivasis as much as Christians. Both seem to be
interested in having number in their group-thus to have their own power- rather
than seeing the real empowerment of Adivasis by supporting them to get tehir
indigenous rights. None of these religious groups have shown much interest in
fighting for the indigenous rights of Adivasis in India. Most of them are even
unaware that india government has said in Geneva (ILO169) that india does not
have indigenous people.....!!! I have not seen any religious group who
otherwise seem to be too concerned about the Adivsis welfare organizing
themsleves for Indigenous rights. It is true earlier the Chistian missionaries
had supported jharkhand movment.

In fact Adivasi religion is probably the only religion which is not
institutionalized and live the values of respect for others, commuity spirit,
respect for nature, concern for others, and live wihtout hording and exploiting
nature. We will be comfortable if we are allowed to practice our religion and
live a human life. Adivasi religion is around nature and farming. Adivasi sees
God in nature. He/she lives and let others live. We do not go for war and
conquering the people... Our gods are the nature.....we do not need sword or
any weapon to practice our religion...

We respect any one who embraces a different religion......that is not a
problem for us.....but all these religions that create tesnions and divisons
are doing harm to our culture and environment. Can't any one practice one's
religion wihtout hating the other and creating tensions and destroying
peace>>?????

Adivasi religion is very much about here and now, nature and fellow human n
ot about future heaven and hell......looking at heaven we do not like to spoil
our presetn life.....

So all those who want to work among our community are welcome...... HIndus
and Christians can work among us.....if your religion inspires you to work
please go ahead...but don't use your religion to divide us and to take away our
values. As we respect your religion, please respect our religion and values.
As we live and let others live, please, please allow us to live our own way
and you too live in your own way...let us live and let live.....Please do not
use Adivsi area as a battle ground even if you consider it convenient for you.

I spend about 2 months every year in the Adivasi Villages, and in my
journeys have come face to face with the evangelical activities. in 2006 I have
also spent 6 weeks in the ashram of much maligned Venerated Swamiji who was
attacked 4 weeks ago in Khandmal, so I know he is not a fraud sage. His
hospitals and the education institute does give sterling service to the
Adivasis. Please make an effort to see his dedication and his work, before
labelling him as a fraud.

This is interesting. We would be happy to know about your
organization. Also where it is working in Chattisgarh. The means by which you
involved the multinational oil giant Shell in development work. And any work
you are doing to preserve indigeneous herbal medicines and varieties of rice
(Dr Richharia was a famous Chattisgarhi scientist who studied the varieties of
rice there and practically felt that the then Madhya Pradesh was the original
home of rice).
Who are Tesco? Are you selling through Fair Trade or the known agencies which
support fair prices for producers and then sell to individuals in UK and
Europe? Do you use the Dilli Haat- our Indian fair market for indigeneous
produce. There are agencies like CIKS in Chennai who also work for indigeneous
science. Are you in touch with them?

I accept what you are saying 100% and will defend your right with my life to
retain what you believe in. .... Informal education is the first step in this
direction, so that they cannot be exploited by anyone, not even me.

In Chhatisgarh we are already supporting Advasis how to improve production of
AMLA and other cashcrops, and are helping them to market these products
directly without the need of middlemen. These products are being sold in Tesco
in the UK, bought directly from Chhatisgarh Adivasis.

We have also got Shell uk to install Solar Panel Energy in 500 Adivasi hamlets
completely Free of Cost. Are also looking at improving healthcare by provdiing
Bio-degradeable sanitation, all sponsored by individuals without any impact on
the way of life of the Adivasis. In fact this is provided on request by the
Adivasis themselves. There is no reason why this cannot be replicated
elsewhere.
