With the growing resentment among people of Balasore, Bhadrak
and Mayurbhanj districts over the alleged apathetic attitude of South Eastern
Railways (SER) towards rail development in northern Orissa, demands for
inclusion of these zones in the East Coast Railway (ECoR) and separate rail
division at Balasore have intensified.
Funds allotted for rail development and upgradation in the SER region were
utilised for the infrastructural development of trains in W Bengal, as a result
of which the comfort of passengers and the development of railway facilities
have been undermined. Sources informed that the survey work for the rail link
between Jaleswar-Kirtania port has not been started as yet. They further added
that although survey of the rail link between Jaleswar and Digha has been
completed, the rail route passes through W Bengal, mainly Midnapore, which will
mar the tourism potential of sites like Talseri beach, Bhusandeswar and
Chandaneswar in the State.
Besides making demands for more number of trains between
Kharagpur-Bhadrak and Baripada -Rupsa, the people have asked for laying of a
new rail route between Balasore and Keonjhar for passengers and goods
transportation. Sources further added that the resentment would further
intensify and the elected representatives of the area would raise the issue in
Parliament.
