Kalinganagar is again on the boil- with one of the leaders of Bisthapan
Virodhi Janamanch being shot dead as described below. The Company goons have
threatened to kill all the Bisthapan Virodhi Janamanch leaders within one
week one by one.

Orissa is fast turning into a corporate sponsored mafia state, as evidenced
by the going ons in Kalinganagar and Dhamra (100 people arrested for
demanding better compensation from this TATA owned company). Similarily the
senior IAS officer Priyabrata Pattanaik who had been appointed as the
Special officer for the POSCO project in Jagatsinghpur, has been implicated
in the murder of Biranchi Das (the coach of child marathoner Budhia) and
under public pressure, relieved of his duties.

Subject: Re: URGENT - Villager shot dead by TATA goons in Kalinga Nagar

Today morning at about 10 an INNOVA vehicle (number - OR 02 AJ 2007)
carrying Arvind Sing (TATA accomplice) and few other armed people entered
Baragadia where they shot dead Amin Banra, a villager who opposed Tata.
Yesterday evening the assailants had threatened that the leaders of the
Bisthapan Birodhi Janamanch would be eliminated one after the other within 7
days and no law would be able to protect them. All this is just a week after
a murderous attack on another villager opposed to TATA, Amar Banra who
survived it.
Amin Banra's murderers are still at large despite the police having all
information required like identity of the attackers, vehicle number, etc.
Rather the police and district administration seems to be a part of the
conspiracy to gun down the leaders of the Bisthapan Birodhi Janamanch
including today's shocking incident. The role of the mafia-bureaucracy nexus
is more than evident today in Orissa with POSCO Nodal Officer & Commerce and
Transport Secretary Priyabrata Patnaik being relived off his duties for
having links with dreaded criminals like Raja Acharya and being involved in
Biranchi Das murder case.

Orissa's leading daily the SAMAJ is also playing a role in this issue by
constantly manufacturing false stories about the Bisthapan Birodhi Janamanch
especially ones that present the democratic people's movement as Maoist. if
it were true then Arvind Sing and his gang would not have entered a village
so easily and gunned down Amin Banra. it is to be also noted that tension
has prevailed in the area for a week now especially when bulldozers lined up
near villages when families of people killed on 2nd Jan 2006 were
compensated as the company assumed it was a green signal for them to start
work. The Bisthapan Birodhi janamanch issued a statement where it made clear
that people were opposed to Tata factory and not compensation from the Govt
which they rightfully deserve.
