Dear Friends, Unfortunately scribes resort to just publsihing press releases without any cross-checking of facts. What are these child care centers all about in reality? Vedanta has already 10-12 child care centers in Lanjigarh, Orissa. I have seen them in villages of Bandhaguda, Sinduali, Belamba, etc. where the child care center is nothing but just a painted signboard saying 'Vedanta Child Care Center'. If you ask villagers they say someone comes once in a while and gathers all the children and teaches them some english alphabets. C V Krishnan is just talking about the groups plans but who said they will actually carry it out? And including a MLA and Collector doesnt make the system fool proof as anyways all welfare policies of the district are being looked into by the Collector and the MLA despite which Kalahandi languishes. So how can their presence change anything at all? The role of Collector & MLA while acquirind land for Vedanta in Lanjigarh was notorious. They have threatened people and forcefully evicted them. It is really unbearable that companies like Vedanta continue to make a mockery of social welfare and public sentiments. - Surya
