Acclaimed magician P C Sorcar (Junior) will set up the world's first university
of magic in Kolkata this year.
“The university will start its maiden session in November this year with about
a dozen graduate students selected after thorough scrutiny,” Sorcar told
reporters here.
He said the courses have been dissected into branches like psychology, acting,
mechanical and lighting and experts have been roped in from the fields as
faculty.
The students will be awarded a masters degree called Master of Illusion.
Stating that magic of today is science of tomorrow, the magician, who astounded
the world many a time through his tricks, said such tricks should not fall into
wrong hands.
“So we have laid out strict procedures of selection of candidates. We will
select witty students with good IQ and those who will benefit the society
rather than harm it,” he said.
Virtually debunking the tantriks, babas and sadhus, Sorcar said superstition is
his biggest enemy.
“I believe in science and truth. What they perform even I can do. It is mere
illusion. We do it for entertainment,” he said.
