Dear Friends
All Kudos to Ms. Dayamani Barla for coming up in her life after a long drawn
struggle and taking a local leadership for the cause of poor Adivasis.
But one thing we should remember that one should not become emotional on
economic development issues. Poor Adivasis have been engaged in non-
remunerative agriculture for ages and continue to remain poor, half naked,
starving, socially deprived, financially non viable and dependent on local
money lenders. For any economic development of local area especially where
agriculture is non profitable, land is un irrigated, other means of livelihood
are nil or insignificant, industrial development will only provide solution to
the employment problem and economic development of the area. Ms. Daymani
Barla, in her anxiety to be over protective of Adivasis should not be emotive
on the issue and should be pragmatic and initiate a dialog with Mittals for
local employment to at least one member of the family whose land is to be
acquired, adequate market related compensation to the land acquired, and
partnership of affected adivasis with the project.
Will J Blog kindly arrange to bring the above views to the kind notice of
Ms. Barla Dayamani.
Thanks
