Respected Readers,

I read a few messages on
the subject whether the caste system is evil or not a evil. I feel
it is the society and the Government who make any system good or
bad. Let their be a caste systme but if some segment of the society
do not create a friction or see others with hatred it can be good
because development is possible only when a community is unite and
make joint efforts. I was born and brought up in Andamans, we
studied the Caste system but never saw or experience any bad impact
of caste system in those tiny. Since people from every State and
every walk of life had settled there, there used to be mingling or
socialising among each other without the barrier of caste, state or
religion. We were comfortable with any religion, any caste or creed.
It is only when i came Delhi, I could see the other side of the
coin. One day my boss asked me whether I belong to " Reserved
Quota". My parents originally belonged to Jharkhand so I told him
that I am a Adivasi. I explained to him and in due course to all of
my colleages about the Adivasis. Once they understood what means to
be an Adivasi, nothing wrong happened to me. What i mean to say that
often people around us act or react with unfounded notions or
without having deeper knowldege of the subject.

I feel it is only politics or few groups who create friction among
society for some vested interest. If there is any evil in a system,
it has to be eliminated as "Sati Pratha" was eliminated from indian
society.Someone within the Society has to take a lead.

I don't think we can eliminate caste system from our society because
every politician has some stake on this issue. One may like or
dislike this system but apart from politicians, those within the
system as well. For example we can take the instance of Gujjar
Community who are demanded ST status. Even though Government jobs
are declining more and more people want to be inside the system
of "Reservation". The question why may have many answers and many
reasons.

Taking Andaman and Nicobar Islands as an example in my mind it is
education and better medical facilities which can help us to
improve.Exploitation is there because people are uneducated.
Uneducation is there because people are poor. The people are poor
because the Administration is corrupt. Government is spending crores
and crores on various schemes but is it reaching to poors and needy?
Perhaps, No. Let us try to find ways to eradicte the evils.
