Thanks Ujjwal Oraon putting his points boldly. Sarna boys too should insist to Christian girls to convert into sarna religion first. Targetting those Sarna boys and girls who are somehow getting education will not go for long. We Hindus feel sarna as our own, may be we have deviated from our old Puja system to which sarnas are yet anchored and we are to learn from them. Adivasis too adopt something like Hanuman who was born at Anjan, near Toto of Gumla which every Hindu reverers.
Dear Munda, I am not a ome HINDU DHARMAGURUS but have studied scriptures.. and can say that no Hindus should have MISCONCEPTION that "THE ADIVASIs ARE Not HINDUS". Santhals, Oraons, Mundas, HOs, Kharia etc are HINDUs and that SARNA religion is not different from HINDU though it has no similarity with ISLAM / CHRISTIANITY./ SIKHISM though is a part of great Hindu ( every page of Guru granth saheb starts with OM Ram Onkara and names like Guru Arjuna, Guru Govinda are names from Hindu history) umbrella being from distant west nay not have similarity with Sarna. Sarna's methodology and way of faith / worship is not different from the main Indian religion Hindus they obsever KARMA on Karm Ekadashi This SARNA is entirely different from non Hindu religions. Sarna's distinct way of spirituality, does not make it different from Hindus which have myriads of ways to reach God. With the increased intercommunity mixing (ineraction) up of these adivasis with the main stream community, many adivasis (particularly the educated and who live in towns) ha started going to temples etc. are not uncommon. Adivasis had also started participating in hindu festivals like Dussera, Rathyatra etc. are not of a recent origin- Lord jagannath's rathyatra being nearer to Puri is quite common and Ramnavami is celebrated with joy even in the interiors of Chhotanagpur. "upliftment" work, done by Hindus are never interfering with Adivasis but any anti -christianity is natural as Christian fathers have uprooted Sarna's own way of thinking and worship( see Ujjawal Oroan's mail) . No amount of brainwashing can make any right thinking Hindu that SARNA is different from main Hindus. True, adivasis do not eat beef, pork etc. ,SARNA ADIVASIs are not supposed to eat beef maybe a form of Gau Puja (though some Hindus of Kerala take beef but they are not treated as non-Hindus). True, Munda Sarna community strictly don't eat beef (cow meat) as they are most learned among Adivasis and so maybe for , pork (pig meat). MURGA (Not the MURGI) is common. KHASSI / BAKRA / Mutton (not the BAKRI) is also taken after Bali pradan in Maithils in north Bihar. BHED / Sheep (Not the BHEDI) is not in Mithila or north Bihar and I do not know about Laddakh etc. where indus might have been taking being available. Eating only the "KILLED" animal, etc. are local customs and eating meat or not at all are not criteria for being Hindu. However, in almost all (barring few ) eating Beef is considered as a punishable social crime. Even, killing a cow / ox is bigger crime in our community. Even if somebody kills a cow/ox by mistake, he has to do some SHUDDHIKARAN process otherwise he will be LEFT by the community. Gau is as sacred as Ganga and what more can be more pointer that sarnas are part of Hindu umbrella. True, "Adivasis are dependent on Agriculture and OX is the only source of power for ploughing. COW/OX is considered as most valuable commodity (AMANAT) of the adivasi family." In the occassion of DEEWALI (SOHRAI), Hindus worship LAKSHMI, but adivasis worship COWS, OXES and Buffalows, instead of LAKSHMIji.," but you may be surprised that in Mithila deewali is obseved as SUKHRATI , a version of that may be SOHrai, and I learn from your mail this and add that we maithils and rather Hindus up to harya do Govardhan Puja (worshiping cows, oxes etc.) hust next day of Deewali... and so in your reply it is inharent that sarna are part of Hindus.. Indian Constitution defines Hindus by exlusion of Islam, Christianity, parsees. and in fact all which have faith originated in Indian land are Hindus be Bauddh,jain, sikh or sarna who are following ORIGINAL RELIGION being in deep forests.
