I think you are absolutely right. It is a collective responsibility that we
have. A peculiar lassitude and inertia is being witnessed in our country for
the last two decades or so. We have become insensitive to the sufferings of
our own countrymen. Ten people being killed is nothing, there must be at
least hundred to hit the headlines. The mainstream press tended always to
sensationalize matters and gllefully reported etnic violence in the most
imprudent and impolitic ways. In a multi cultural and pluralistic ethos such
as ours one has to be tactful in reporting on matters pertaining to communal
or ethnic clashes.The media was, and still is very tactless and egregiously
'divisive', on reporting on such matters.
