Jalgaon Convention
(Manaviya Ekta Sammelan)
(A clarion call for human unity and harmony against terrorism, communalism,
regional-linguistic hatred, castism and violence)
21-22 February 2009; Jalgaon, Maharashtra

Invitation

Dear friend,

You too must be feeling that we are passing through an extremely
dangerous period. While economic and political crisis is deepening, brazen
attacks are taking place even on human relations. All the different types of
identities are being pitted against each other; creating hatred against each
other and making them feel that the other is the enemy. The forces, motivated
by their narrow interests to dominate socially, economically and politically,
are throwing up sentimental and fanatical slogans and causing genocide and
plunder, calling it people’s spontaneous outburst. These forces are playing
havoc with nothing controlling them. Even the governments are providing them
direct or indirect support by their neutral stance or incapacity.

These power-hungry, profit-oriented and man-eater forces are creating and
spreading an atmosphere of distrust and terror. All the human forces need to
unite against these conspiracies to crush all human sensitivities and feelings,
and launch a campaign to create trust and courage to confront the marauding
forces. A cultural campaign has to be launched in favour of positive values
like love, goodwill, co-existence, equality and justice. A resolved and
organised national might has to be evolved.

With this very motto, a convention, Manaviya Ekta Sammelan, was organised on
17-18 January 2009 at Bhubaneswar, Orissa. The convention was successful in
making a good beginning. 150 persons from 11 states of India participated in
it. After in-depth discussions on the issue, there was a unanimous opinion
built that this process has to be carried on to evolve a concrete programme of
action to confront the dark forces and pave way for greater human unity. A 28
member committee was constituted for this task. An immediate programme was to
organise programmes on 30 January, the day of Mahatma Gandhi’s martyrdom, in as
many places as possible, with the objective of human unity. Activists in
different places will decide the form of the programmes appropriate for the
place.

Further to this, as decided earlier, similar convention is being organised at
Jalgaon, Maharashtra on 21-22 February 2009, of course with the wisdom gained
in the Bhubaneswar convention,. You are cordially invited to the convention in
order to strengthen the efforts for the avowed objective.
