Dear Sir, The NCSTD has opened its Assam Chapter under the presidentship of Mr Samuel Lakra, Principal of one Inter College. Bodo, Mikir, and other tribes are also member in the state committee. In my opinion, there is hardly any internal rift between the tribes to accept Adivasis in the register made for Assam Tribes. It requires social mobilisation with a religious approach. The NCSTD is taking pain for the issues related to the Adivasis. AK Shrivastava, Nirmal Bartaria, Agatha Beck Dayanidhi Marandi Re: Adivasi festival Adirang from today Dear All, These kind of festivals are being organised as a matter of routine. I have seen in orissa many times but has not been effective in furthering the interest of the Adivasis.Let it be done but the live exibition of Adivasis should not be done. Dayanidhi Marandi. Roopa Sharma The message is relevant but the problem is that the forest areas too are shrinking. WIth plantation style of cultivations in diffferent forests of India by the British and then our own govt, the adivasi's dependence on forests for everything is finished as the loss of biodiversity has forced him to slash and burn forest to cultivate land .Coupled with this is growing population, increased pressure on land and land deradation, such marginalised peple are just accursed to go hungry. It is sad but there are no options except such extreme measures. Our leaders should work committedly towards making them self dependent by easy credit schemes, self help groups etc. THe story of the couple who had bought two calves to survive would not have had this twist if they had not cleared the land too. ANd this statement " I did not cut a single tree " may be true for one or two but not for all. THanks for sharing roopa
