are you sure you're setting the CLASSPATH environment variable correctly? If you are on windows, type
echo %CLASSPATH% or on Unix/Linux type printenv CLASSPATH and check that the real path to your basedir/build/classes exists on the classpath.. Or post the classpath here if you can't decide..
