Hi Dailbor,

For Windows, I know the JDK only comes as a Windows Installer, but is their
a reason that the JDK cannot be downloaded as a ZIP file? When it comes to
the several companies I've been in, it's not a preferred practice that the
JDK actually gets installed this way.

Likewise, I wish not to "install" it on my computer. In the absence of a
ZIP file, I actually run the installer to place the JDK in its canonical
location (e.g., leaving the defaults), then copy the contents to another
directory, and then uninstall it. Why the switch-a-roo? I uninstall it to
get it out of Windows management -- don't want it in my Registry or Control
Panel. This is a tool I manage myself for development. I also ZIP the
contents to archive it for later, if I ever need to reinstall from scratch.

It's a pattern I see myself and others do habitually for several years. So
if there's any insight you can provide on why a Windows ZIP doesn't exist
(policy? hasn't been asked for?), I would appreciate it. Thank you!

Cheers,
Paul
