   Ah. Good point. Missed this...
   
   For this case, does it even make sense to check for `isEmpty()`? We would 
also just to `return openIterators.first().startTimestamp();` only?
   
   Or use `pollFirst()` and re-insert afterwards (also not good code TBH...)
