Review comment:
       On second thought, I don't think connect's internal topics should be 
controlled by the separator at all. Please check my comment above. 
   
   Customers have already a way to override connect's topics, for keeping the 
backward compatibility I just recommend keeping the fix simple and updating 
`isInternalTopic` to the following
   ```java
       /** Internal topics are never replicated. */
       default boolean isInternalTopic(String topic) {
           boolean isKafkaInternalTopic = topic.startsWith("__") || 
topic.startsWith(".") ||  topic.endsWith("-internal") ||  
topic.endsWith(".internal");
           return isMM2InternalTopic(topic) || isKafkaInternalTopic;
       }
   ```
