I let Squeezebox server do the converting. Settings > Player > Squeezeplay > Audio > Bitrate Limiting: 128 kbps
So basically almost al my music gets converted. the Flacs play fine (as 128 kbps mp3), also the mp3's with a bitrate below 128 kbps play fine. They are not being converted ofcourse and are played as they are. Only mp3's with a higher bitrate that are converted by the server using sox, won't play.
