Hi, it turns out that if you want to use the newest version (1.8), you need to be using JDK 1.4. If you're trying to run 1.8 with an older version, you'll be getting a java class version exception upon startup.
At list, thats what happened on my Linux box. Given the nature of Java, I would assume that this is not a platform specific issue but rather a generic one.
