Hi all, Just some findings. Not particularly scientific but they might help.
I was experiecing the same problems. Proxy not working correctly, everything setup, but JMeter was hanging when recording the URLs. I noticed it was actually stalling whilst looking for a URL g.msn.com/5meen_us/60. I think this is something to do with MSN, trying to call home. Looks like MSN uses the proxy settings from IE! Anyway, the g.msn.com page was returning some garbage XML. Essentially, I changed to Netscape Navigator, set the proxy as mentioned in Boutique Article, and had no problems. So a summaries: 1) Watch MSN it's sneaky! I used Netscape. 2) I needed to restart JMeter, starting and stopping the Proxy server wasn't enough, and would leave it in an unstable state. Restart JMeter. 3) Avoid re-directs. Our web app has an initial forwarding page, if I went to re-direct page the recording failed. Go straight to app URL. Hope this helps.
