HTTP requests not working at all (following "5. Building a Web Test Plan" tutorial)

I have followed the instructions from the "2. Getting Started" section, 
specifically the "5. Building a Web Test Plan" and I can't seem to get 
any HTTP requests to work as the graph never has any data in it.  I 
changed to test on one of our internal websites so that I could check 
the Apache access logs and indeed no requests were being made.

The Green box lights up at the top right of JMeter's GUI but nothing 
happens.  Any ideas?

Platforms tested: Windows XP and Solaris 8 Sparc
JMeter Version:   2.0.2
Java version:     1.4.2_01
