Also, I have tried adding a sampler with the same settings but that did
not work either.  Is there anything else that I could be missing that
would cause this.  I have a cert that is not signed by one of the five
that ships with JDK.  I am importing it into the jssecacerts file and
throwing it into JRE's lib/security folder.  Everything seems to go
correctly but just want to know if I am missing something.

So is it working then?

I think that may be a one-off error - what happens if you add another
sampler with the same settings? It may work...

I made some fixes to the code (one of which was to fix an initialisation
error).
You may get better results with the nightly build.
