Samplers are the 'do this' action components in JMeter, so I'd start with
the list of samplers from the user manual.

Note, just because a technology is mentioned in a JMeter sampler does not
mean JMeter supports all aspects of that technology.
For instance, the FTP sampler pretty much lets you upload or download a file
as an FTP client. It does not support all aspects of the FTP protocol (e.g.
it won't get a directory listing), nor does it act as an FTP server.
