ah, correction: does NOT work in the applet. At least not unless you
like finger painting with a molecule. I'm keeping this jar file for
making REALLY cool art. Try it.

Yes.
'color background none' is part of the viewer and works in application and
applet.
Concord group wanted to use it because they are showing animations in the
background (molecular dynamics? reactions?) that correspond to what is
going on in the Jmol foreground.
