The function business is just one of them. It's important to remember that the goal is for compatibility of all older scripts in any new version of Jmol, not the other way around. I think that's a given. It wouldn't be hard to put in a flag that generates function-free code, but I think what you would find is that the scripts wouldn't necessarily run anyway on older versions, because features are added, not removed.
All these 11.3.x versions are development versions. The real distinction is 11.4 vs. 11.2, and there you will see that very little of a script written by 11.4 will run in 11.2. That's the nature of the beast, I think. In some ways having the functions there guarantee a "fast failure", ensuring that the script will not run on versions that it is not appropriate to. >That said: I figured this out testing my code to allow checking pages >locally.
