Hi Egon,

And thanks for your interest and feedback.

I completely agree with you that the notion of LIMS is extremely large and
can cover many things. That is one of the challenge of eyeLIMS.

My analysis was that all scientists share a few common needs:
- all project are now international and implicate more than one lab, so they
need a common space to share their documents and informations
- each project produces a large quantity of data which are difficult to
share by classical ways (emails for example) so more and more biological
databases are web based and freely accessible.
- lots of free open source web based aplications are currently avaible but
they are dispersed on the web.

At the opposite, there is also a huge diversity in a scientific subjects and
fields and each lab needs to be able to customize the platform and integrate
the application it really needs.

Our goal using eyeOS / eyeLIMS is to provide such a balance between a
secured and user friendly web based workspace and a open platform for easy
integration of existing solutions and applications. So as you said, projects
like eyeLIMS and Metware are not competitors but complement each other.
eyeLIMS can provide general features such as file management and sharing
whereas Metware grants access to specialized information.

We are currently focusing on eyeStorage, the molecular and cellular products
manager, but we would be more than happy to welcome any new initiative or
project to propose a richer platform. Let me know if you think it could be
of interest to interface eyeLIMS with Metware.

Best regards,

Alexandre
