This idea just popped: this mechanism could be a very good solution 
to the problem of loading the applet upon user's request: 
the page author could provide the enhanced jpg for display in the 
page, and then include a link/button/event that will insert the 
applet (as we have already done in several places) but now using the 
same (jpg) file. In fact, the image itself can be the link to produce 
the applet that reads the same jpg file again.
