It looks like the labels must be turned on before the size is set ... this
is a bug ... I will fix it. For now, first turn on your labels, then set
the font size.
The 'set fontsize' command tries to RasMol/Chime compatible. All labels
are given the same size, regardless of whether or not they are selected.
Also, the 'set fontsize' commands does not use points. Instead, in an
attempt to be somewhat RasMol compatible, the value of 5 is added to this
argument and is converted to a point size.
However, Jmol contains some powerful extensions in the area of font
support. I recommend that you take a look at these. Ask questions if you
do not understand.
Jmol allows you to control the color, the font face, the style, and the
size of each label individually.
Note that these font sizes are in specified in points.
font label {fontsize} {serif|sanserif|monospaced}
{plain|bold|italic|bolditalic}
try the following
select alpha; label "alpha carbon";
font label 18 serif italic;
color label orange
select backbone & oxygen; label "carbonyl oxygen";
font label 12 sanserif bold;
color label green
