RasMol/Chime do NOT have a built-in mechanism to select by element.
For example "select c" selects cytosine, whereas "select carbon" selects carbon. "select n", "select o", "select p" select zero atoms even when nitrogen, oxygen, and phosphorus are present.


What is confusing is that some hetero atoms may have group names identical to element symbols, e.g. the cadmium ions in 1D66 have group names CD, therefore "select cd" works same as "select cadmium". But if their group names were "CAD" then "select cd" would fail.
