That is no good ... they need to find a better way to serve the URLs

On the other hand, one could imagine the applet reading

<meta http-equiv="refresh" content="3;URL=/subscribe/journals/chreay/suppinfo/cr030092l/Figure4/6+2-ene.xyz?sessid=3705">

no, nevermind.... I'm actually quite amazed the cookies get set at all. No, Henry just needs a source-based work-around. By the way, I did have to go through some contortions to figure out why a simple "xyz" file wasn't loading. Just loading the URL of course popped the XYZ file into my browser (which, ahem, was displayed by Chime). I had to create a link in a separate document and do a "save link target as" to my hard drive to see what was going on. I find it very interesting that the applet file load actually goes through the javascript/cookie processor and probably even does the redirect, but never looks for the new version.

Actually, if you want these structures, Henry, I think you just have to add

?sessid=nnnn

(where "nnnn" is some number) to your filenames. The number is irrelevant, but you must have some "session id" there to get the actual xyz file.

Ah! I can demonstrate this, can't I!!!! Yes,

http://fusion.stolaf.edu/chemistry/jmol/loaddata.htm

does in fact allow loading of

http://pubs.acs.org/subscribe/journals/chreay/suppinfo/cr030092l/Figure4/6+2-ene.xyz?sessid=3705

(sorry if that wraps)

Pick a session ID, any session ID. (I think.)

So, Henry, give this a go and let us try it.

The Jmol applet (indeed any applet) can fetch data via URLs, but cannot
handle cookies. It might not be able to handle redirects, although they
might work if they are in the same domain.

Q: Henry, do you understand the issues?
