Jonathan, your Perl script is terrific. Are you interested in
implementing the JVXL format with these? We should work together to
determine the best way of delivering orbitals over the web.
I realize that your files aren't THAT big, but a 100:1 compression is
what I'm seeing. Here's what I find in terms of file size in bytes:
05/15/2006 09:30p 684,282 Cl3dxz.cube
05/24/2006 12:49p 212,292 Cl3dxz.cube.gz
05/24/2006 12:43p 7,584 cl3dxz.jvxl
05/24/2006 12:08p 2,687 cl3dxz.jvxl.gz
(that JVXL file is at
<http://www.stolaf.edu/people/hansonr/jmol/test/proto/cl3dxz.jvxl>)
This was instructive for me, because I didn't know that CUBE files
could have NO atom coordinates. Note that with the JVXL format, you
could just pack all the orbitals of interest into one file and then
select them with
load ClOrbitals.jvxl
isosurface orb fileindex 1 ""
isosurface orb fileindex 2 ""
isosurface orb fileindex 3 ""
isosurface orb fileindex 4 ""
isosurface orb fileindex 5 ""
etc.

Dear Jmol users:
I have created a web page with instructions and links to the perl
scripts (such as they are), which I used to generate my Cl AO page.
Make use of them if you can.

I have also added a link to this web page in the Jmol wiki. If
useful, this stuff could eventually migrate to the Jmol wiki.
Cheers,
Jonathan
