Dear Bob,

Both Frieda Reichsman and I, in unrelated Jmol projects, have needed to be
able to color portions of an echo line differently.

Each of us has written code (independently) to color individual lines in
what would otherwise be a single echo string, using Y axis pixel offsets
between lines and sending each line as a separate echo command with its own
offsets.

A snapshot from my own work is here:
http://www.umass.edu/microbio/chime/beta/temporary/label_colors.gif
Although whole lines are different colors in this example, it would be more
accurate to color individual words within a line.
Also, it would be useful to color certain lines in the echo at the left as
well as the one at the right, but time consuming to implement as I use
different font sizes depending on the length of the list.

How complicated would it be to provide a mechanism enabling color changes
within a single echo string? We and likely others would find this useful in
many contexts.

Thanks, -Eric
