I have three aligned pdb files loaded in an applet, and check boxes

I have labels displayed on one of the models, and a separate checkbox
to turn the labels off, if desired.

Although the labels are attached to one model by necessity, the
situation really calls for labels that can be displayed independently
of which model is showing. (If the user turns off the labeled model,
the labels turn off automatically, because the model is not displayed.)

The simplest solution would be to be able to display the labels of
something that is not visible, but I cannot see a way to do this in Jmol.

right.

Well, you COULD load all models twice, and have the second copy just for
the labels -- with restrict none; select whatever;labels on

Aha! Good idea! So you can display labels on something that is not visible, by restricting... and, I think I can get away with only loading one model twice. Thanks, Bob!
