First a mea culpa, I was using an earlier Jmol version that allowed 
creation of orbitals, but not changing them by the method you describe. 
Second, using Jmol version 11.2.0 and allene as a test molecule, I am 
able to create both opaque and translucent s and p orbitals on selected 
carbon atoms.  The terms "translucent" and "opaque" must follow the 
color designation, not precede it.  I am also able to change the color 
and translucency, but not the scale, of designated s-orbitals using your 
syntax.  However, in order to change p-orbitals, each lobe must be 
selected and changed separately by a pxa and pxb identifier.  The 
ability to designate two colors and a translucency by the same 
statement, as in the "lcaocartoon create" command does not seem to work.
