The export can be megabytes of data. But it's not impossible. The way it is set up, like special shapes, this is in a package of its own that would only be loaded if the user exercises it, so yes, not a real problem with the applet. However, I should note that before I set up a file output stream and instead used a StringBuffer, I was seeing out of memory issues. And the applet will not be able to use a file output stream unless it is signed; in my experience you might as well use the application in that case. A second option would be for the applet/page to transmit the state to the server and let the Jmol application on the server, running in silent/frameless mode create the files and then deliver them back to the page. This seems to me to be a good alternative for something like JenaLib, where you can control the server and add functionality on that end. >(This would allow to send the povray files using javascript to a server >script that executes povray and sends the rendered image back to the >browser.) > > > Ah -- so then, as I say, just send the state and let the server run a server-side Jmol application. No need to send the POV-Ray code to the server, I think. This would be far more efficient.
