Ok, my library where I store past experiences with the connect command
recently burned so for a period of time I was not able to access it. I now
remember that I have hbond off buried in a reset script.

right, shouldn't make a difference. This works, ok for me at
http://chemapps.stolaf.edu/jmol/docs/examples-11/new.htm, and I can't
think of anything I've done recently in that area. If you can't track it
down, let me know. To test, try that command from the Jmol console a few
times. If it works there, then somehow your button is doing more than
you think. You should also be seeing messages in the Java console as
this command processes.
Also, you might want to try
getproperty stateinfo modelstate
to see if the connect command is showing up there or not.

If nature does not answer first what we want,
it is better to take what answer we get.
