Jmol 11.9.7 will have a new "zshade" feature that I think people will like.
It's demonstrated at
http://chemapps.stolaf.edu/jmol/docs/examples-11/new.htm. Do take a look.
This is basically a "fog" effect that makes the distant objects seem to fade
away into the background.
