I am at a workshop (
http://cdsagenda5.ictp.trieste.it/full_display.php?ida=a09274) on Molecular
and Materials computing on the GRID. I have met two Jmol users who have
questions about the use of Jmol but were unaware this was an Open project
with a community and a mailing list. I shall post two questions here (about
GROMACS and potential energy surfaces) and would be very grateful for rapid
replies that I could show in a session early on Wednesday morning (0900
CET).
I am more generally trying to promote the development of Open collaborative
communities so have crossposted this to the Blue Obelisk list. It is clear
that many people do not realise that Open software often relates to a
vibrant community that will respond to requests and requirements.
I have a very strong sense that Openness is exploding. I went (briefly) to a
session run in SanFran last week by PLoS which although apparently about new
publication methods turned out really to be about bottom-up democracy in
Science.

[I shall ask the questions only on Jmol under separate titles and not
crosspost]
