Does the Java console show any error messages?
Occasional freezing is the problem why I never used 'jmolScriptWait'
after it was introduced a few years ago.
If something goes terribly wrong with the script command(s) started by
'jmolScriptWait' the browser will appaerantly wait forever.
You could try to include the 'jmolEvaluate' into the 'jmolScript' call.
There are commands that you shouldn't call in the same command with
javascript commands but I think the commands here are not problematic.
In the console (without 'jmolScript') this works for me:
jmolScript('select 2:A.CA and 1.1; label "it worked"; catom={selected};
javascript alert( jmolEvaluate("catom.label")');
