NIO Client is an interesting option. You would have a Jmol "daemon" going
that would accept clients, do its thing, and keep on going. But the problem
with that is that daemons like that have to be set up to accept some number
of simultaneous clients, and that's not how the NIO Client is set up.
That's a single-server single-client adapter. Simplest way is what you
suggest.
