Yes, but while the plain PNG file is just an image, the PNGJ file is a
portable JMOL archive that contains even the structure, isosurfaces and
scripts (like a JMOL file).

with 12.3.25 I can write both PNG and PNGJ but in .26 the PNGJ is (clearly)
broken.
