Yes, the alpha carbon is a choice. Since it tends to be deep, I've sometimes
used the beta carbon instead (except for glycine)
You can also play with labelOffset to separate it more, but the result is not
always good.
You could also use a 3D-positioned echo located, for example, at the center
of the residue atoms (I don't think it will be very visible, but you may try).
You need to choose a single residue:
load =4e50;
set echo myTyr Tyr139;
echo This is tyrosine;
font echo 22;
color echo cyan;
