Correct. The documentation is correct now:

 write COORDS "fileName"

*Writes a file including only the previously selected atoms, modifying the
coordinates to the current view if the file type is one of: CD, JSON, MOL,

But you can provide the images and let someone just right-click put them
into the clipboard or save them as files. Or provide a popup that will
allow them to clip text. So it's certainly possible to get images or text
into a clipboard, just not directly. And of course you can drag/drop files
into both the Java and JavaScript applets.

Sounds like clipboard access is coming, though.
http://caniuse.com/#feat=clipboard but I don't exactly understand what that
is about.

Personally, I think the restrictions on the clipboard are good security
policy. Do you want anything on the web able to read your clipboard? fill
it with an ad? I don't!
