Dear Bob, Jmol/Java is doing fine auto-uncompressing a gzipped PDB file.
In contrast, JSmol/HTML5 is failing on the same file, reporting "unrecognized file format". For historical MIME type reasons, I have lots of gzipped PDB files (including the case in point) whose names end simply ".pdb" rather than ".pdb.gz". This problem occurs with 14.1.12_2014.03.27 (with all files local, no Internet connection, in Firefox).
