As far as I know, you need to install separately the 32bit and 64bit versions 
of Java. Apart form that, there is no functional difference.

On Windows, the only browser I know that is 64bit is IE. 
32bit Java works fine in both Chrome, Firefox, Opera and IE -- all 32bit 
programs (my WIn7 laptop has two separate versions of IE, one is 32 the 
other is 64)
